The Navigation Console is an interface for crew members to pilot their spaceship. It enables use and management of Hyperdrives in order to hyperjump.
Game System[]
The Navigation Console is an important structure that unlock the Hyperjump ability of a spaceship, providing it has Hyperdrives, whenever it is manned.
Hyperdrives won't work if they are not "paired" to a Navigation Console, and won't heat up for hyperjumping if the Navigation Console has no operator.
One Navigation Console controls all Hyperdrives.
Jumping[]
The use of Hyperdrives allows Hyperjumps and Interstellar Hyperjumps. A Hyperjump is used to move to another area in the star system. An Interstellar Hyperjump is used to go to another star system.
Once powered, fueled, and a crew member work on a Navigation Console, the ship can ignite the Hyperjump sequence. It is done in the View Systems menu. The "Prepare Hyperjump" button can be triggered.
When triggered, all outside Shuttles and Miners belonging to Player will try to return to their hangars and stay in until the sequence is either executed or aborted.
At the same time, a crew member with at least level 1 Navigation skill will try, as soon as possible, to operate the Navigation Console and start heating up the Hyperdrives.
What prevents jumping[]
There are a few reasons your ship may not be able to hyperjump:
- One or more Hyperdrive is not ready
- There is no crew member operating the Navigation Console
- If so, be sure to press the "Prepare Hyperjump" button so a crew member may quickly be assigned to operate the console.
- Ship exceeds double the mass capacity of the hyperdrives
- If the ship is above the mass capacity, try to eject a few items to reduce mass or build additionnal Hyperdrives
Note: If a ship is ready to jump, but the Navigation Console is unmanned for any reason ( sleep time/draft ), Hyperdrives will stay charged but will not allow jumping till a pilot returns to the console
Tactics[]
The Navigation Console is one of the most important structure in the game, without it, a ship is unable to move within the solar system.
An immobile ship is a death sentence most of the time.
It is advised to build one very quickly along with a Hyperdrive, so that the ship is ready to move.
Construction[]
Footprint[]
A Navigation Console needs a 3x3 tile floor area to be built but only right behind the chair is blocked on the final row.
Resources[]
Navigation Console requires the following to be built :
Infrablock | 2 |
Soft Block | 1 |
Techblock | 2 |
Building Tools | 40 |
Environment[]
The Navigation Console generates discomfort only during downtime (-20) and rest (-30). During the work shift it has no effect on comfort.
Trivia[]
- It is possible to have more than one Navigation Console, but it is useless as it don't give any benefits. Also, during work shifts, the crew would try to operate all Navigation Consoles when only one is enough.
