An asteroid, out of many

Asteroids are procedurally generated rocks that inhabit space.

With different sizes and shapes, their main feature is the ability to form with Ores on them that can be mined by a Miner.

Occurence[]

Asteroids are able to spawn everywhere in the galaxy, regardless of whether it's the start or the end of it.

Each asteroid spawn with an associated ore, its type, which can be :

The rarity preset, which depend on game difficulty settings, choose randomly the number of asteroids of one type that will spawn in a solar system. Rarer the ore is, lower this number will be.

The spawning mechanic for each asteroid type is separated, thus the placement of a type is made regardless of the others, making some areas with no asteroids, and some with up to 4 differents types.

The number of ores on an asteroid is the same to all ores, a random number between 6 to 12.

Mining[]

Quite a ore rich area

The only way to gather ores on asteroids is by the use of a Miner.

Once a crew pilot it, the Miner is able to harvest every ore.

To go further, read the page about the Miner.

Depletion[]

Miners when depleting an ore spot leave a footprint in the asteroid.

Once an asteroid is fully depleted, it can't refill itself in any ways and become a space rock among the others.

Trivia[]

  • Asteroid generation works based on a pool of shapes rather than a full procedural generation
  • According to close look to asteroids, they are affected by temperature parameter, although the temperature tab don't show it
  • Rare generation cases have shown up to 6 different ores in the same area.[1]
